Highlighted How-To’s
Our highlighted How-To’s this week include Hide and Unhide Old Emails + Drafts, How to Unsubscribe an Activist in ActionNetwork, and DFL VANual. We’re highlighting the DFL VANual again this week so you have the opportunity to dig in with new organizers or refresh your own VAN knowledge! We encourage you to look through these recent articles that we have added to our Knowledge Base. You can find our full knowledge base here.
Updates to the MN Voterfile
Polling Locations
We’re excited to be moving into GOTV season with you all! Polling locations have been loaded into VAN and are maintained daily by our Data Director, Collin Murray, in collaboration with the Voter Protection and GOTV Teams. Through their joint efforts we’ve been able to streamline updates to polling locations that are more common this year due to COVID-19. We encourage you to reach out to us at voterfile@dfl.org if you find an incorrect polling location listed in VAN.
As a reminder you can utilize polling locations in a few ways in VAN. First, you can include the polling location of your voters on all Virtual Phonebanks that you create! From the “Contact & Location Information” section of the VPB set up you’ll be able to select Polling Address, Polling City, and Polling Location. Additionally, you’re able to use the search bar to look up polling locations by county and precinct. This can help you talk to voters about where they can find their nearest polling location.
As always, you can refer voters to https://www.dfl.org/vote/ for an inclusive guide to all things voting! The Voter Protection Hotline is (833)-DFL-VOTE. The VoPro team is available to answer all of your questions about voting.
Continuing to Support ActionNetwork
As we begin to enter GOTV season, emailing voters will be more important for last minute reminders. Please reach out to voterfile@dfl.org if you have questions about using ActionNetwork, our mass email tool. We are happy to provide trainings and documentation on the tool if you’re still considering other options. If you are a current Action Network user and you would like to see additional tags added to your group, please complete this form and we will work to add those tags to your committee. You can also check out our ActionNetwork FAQ for general information on the tool!
An Update from Data Intern Swetha!
Over the past several weeks, I have had the opportunity to get to know an incredibly hardworking and supportive group of people. It has been humbling to say the least. In addition, I got the chance to learn and use tools like VAN, which I previously knew very little about coming into my internship. I’ve done some audits, bulk uploads, and small projects using R and SQL. Isn’t visualization always the most fun part of working with data? I think so too. Besides that, I’ve called voters regarding lawn signs, merchandise and pop ups, and even helped expand our social media presence. The Minnesota DFL is officially on TikTok! For everyone who is unfamiliar, TikTok is a popular short-video app used by over 500 million active users. It uses a unique algorithm that targets a specific audience through its “For You” page. Videos are typically under a minute and include a sound or filter that can be retrieved from a huge database. Feel free to follow our account @minnesotadfl and be sure to like, share and comment! As the number of days leading up to the election wind down, please set aside time for self-care, we’re almost there. In the meantime, I look forward to diving deeper into the fascinating yet important world of politics.
