To minimize contact points and time retrieving mail from the office during COVID-19, we are requiring a scanned copy of the VAN Agreement while the check arrives via mail. Scanner apps like Adobe Scan for iPhone work great to scan documents if you don't have access to a scanner right now!

However, that means that you might be signing digitally or using a scanner app for the first time. This article will cover some ways you can accomplish both of those steps to get your completed VAN Agreement over to us!

Mac Users

Open Mac's Preview with the document you need to sign. You will first want to open the MarkupToolbar by clicking the circled marker icon on the right side of Preview (shown highlight blue in the image below). Then you can select the downward facing arrow next to the signature icon (shown in image below). This will populate a number of options for how you want to create your signature. Using the trackpad, iPhone, or iPad are all paperless methods of signing the document. Signing using the camera will require you to sign on a physical piece of paper and hold the paper up to the camera. Any method is acceptable and will save your signature for future use on your computer.

Now you can simply send the attachment back to our team at voterfile@dfl.org.

PC Users

To sign on a PC digitally, you will want to make sure you have Adobe Reader downloaded. From there, you'll want to select “Draw” and then draw your signature using your mouse or a touch screen. Selecting "image" will allow you to sign a sheet of paper and upload a photo of the written signature in as your digital signature. Once you've completed either step, hit apply.  Leave “Save Signature” checked and you can reuse this signature in the future.

Now you can simply send the attachment back to our team at voterfile@dfl.org.

Scanner Apps

There are many apps you can install on your smart phone that are helpful for scanning documents. You will only need to scan your VAN agreement back to us if you print the document to sign. If you've digitally signed, you can simply send the attachment back. I recommend Adobe Scan, which can be found for both iPhones and Androids. I will detail how to use this app, but many other apps will have built in instruction if you choose to use them instead.

  • In the bottom right hand corner of the home screen click the camera icon.
  • Take a photo in the app of whatever document you'd like to scan. The app will process the photo and recognize any text found.
  • Take as many photos as needed to "scan" all pages of your document
  • Once you've scanned all pages, click the icon of your pages in the bottom right corner of the app
  • Click "Save PDF" in the top right corner of the app
  • Now you can share the scanned document via email by hitting "Share" and typing the email address of the intended recipient. I like to choose to share a copy rather than the link, but either option will work!
